1967-Inaugural meeting of Dr Parry Memorial Homes
The inaugural meeting of Dr Parry Memorial Homes was conducted on 20th October, 1967. Present were the following representatives: -
- RSL: Bert Donaldson, Bob Addison, Reg Bateup, Bruce Grinton
- APEX Club: Alan Hicks, Mon McLachlan, Brian Fensom, Jim Gunn (26 years of service on committee)
- Temora Municipal Council: Ted Macauley
- Also in attendance were Darryl Goode, Leo Leahy and Alan Bent (press).
Darryl Goode was appointed Honorary Solicitor and appointed to draft the Constitution (remained for over 30 years). The committee resolved to purchase the first piece of land in Haig Street for $1200. The committee resolved to register as a Charitable Organisation.
1968-The tender from MJ & JW Whitla of Temora for the construction of 4 units was accepted.
Architects Graves & Blakemore were engaged to draw up plans and call for tenders.
Five tenders were received, 3 from Temora, one from Yass and one from Wagga Wagga. It was resolved on 19 June, 1968 to accept the tender from MJ & JW Whitla of Temora, for the construction of 4 units.
1968-First residents
The Admissions Committee resolved on 17/12/68 that the first residents be:-
- Frances Elizabeth O’Keefe
- Marie Serov
- Katherine F Popple
- Mary Agnes Downie
With weekly rent of $3.
1969-Official opening
The Official opening occurred on Friday, 7th March, 1969, by the Hon. William C. Wentworth MP, Minister for Social Services.
1970-Fundraising boxing tournament
There was a Boxing tournament held on 30th may, 1970, organized by Bob Addison which raised $476. A sheep drive was also held. At the AGM in September, 1970, Bert Donaldson reported that over $11,000 had been raised during the year from fundraising.
1971-Stage 2
KJ Matthews was awarded the tender for the second stage of Dr Parry Homes in April 1971. The second stage involved the construction of 6 more units.
1983-Stage 3
BJ & LM Reid awarded building contract for Stage 3, with plumbing by Mark Wells in November, 1983.
1987-Additional 4 units
Tender of NW Bland & Sons for 4 units approved September, 1987 and opened on 5 March, 1989.
1991-Additional 3 units
Tender of Darryl Harpley accepted for 3 units in May 1991, increased to 6 units in August 1991.
1983-Department of Social Security grant
A grant of $40,427 from Department of Social Security was approved in 1983.
1984-Donation received
A significant donation of $25,000 was received from Colin L Frateron 22 Feb 1984.
1991-Westpac loan repaid
Westpac loan $90,000 for 5 years at 12% 1991 was taken off and repaid on schedule. Donations were regularly received from residents and organisations in Temora and were collected at BH Kahlefeldt & Co, ANZ Bank Limited and ES & A Bank Limited.
